Titusville Fire Department

MISSION
The mission of the Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Department is to provide our community with emergency services by highly trained, professional personnel in an expedient, effective manner. Furthermore, it is our duty to protect and promote the health, safety, and overall well-being of the community we serve.

Purpose

The purpose of the department is to provide the citizens of Titusville with equipped and trained emergency teams to:

  • Prevent loss of lives and property damaged by fire, hazardous substance releases, and natural and manmade emergencies;
  • Provide equipped and trained first response emergency medical personnel for our citizens; to provide annual inspections of all commercial occupancies to identify and correct fire and hazard safety violations in protection of both the property owner and members of the general public;
  • Provide (within the limitations of department resources) public education/information classes, lectures, and demonstrations regarding potential health and property hazards.

Lieutenant Cecil Cornish Retires After 25 Years

On July 10, 2004 Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Department employees celebrated with Fire Lieutenant Cecil Cornish as he completed his last shift for the department.

Hired in April of 1979 as a firefighter, Cecil obtained his emergency medical technician's certification in 1979 and was promoted to the position of Lieutenant in 1984. He was subsequently promoted to the position of battalion commander in 1995 and his work assignment was modified to include oversight and performance of department public education activities in 1998. He requested shift duty in 2002 and returned to his former position of lieutenant in command of a fire station and crew.

In addition to his regular duties during his tenure with the department, Cecil also had handled the role as the department's public information officer, was the lead instructor and program coordinator for the department's CPR and first aid training programs, served as past Union President of Local 2445 (International Association of Firefighters), a member of the hazardous materials team, developed/implemented/served as the City's first events manager, and performed the roles as the City's emergency management Operations Section Chief and Planning Section Chief.

Cecil's recognitions included chief advisor to the Titusville Fire Department Explorers Group during the eighties and Titusville's Firefighter of the Year in 1985, along with numerous accolades and letters of appreciation from groups and organizations for his involvement in public education endeavors over the years. He is a past member of Masonic Lodge #90 and the Sunrise Kiwanis Club.

Cecil plans to remain in the area with his wife, Peggy, and has already begun his second career as a Realtor with Century 21 in Titusville.
