| According to the Director of FDEP's Central District, Vivian
Garfein, we are very excited to have these two marinas on board with the program. "A
good economy and a clean marina go hand and hand." To achieve "Clean Marina" designation, marinas must comply with over 125 regulatory standards. They must provide training for employees on the marinas environmental polices and procedures. Marinas must also provide customers with educational publications. Lastly, marinas must pass a detailed assessment of their facility by a team of Clean Marina assessors. Once completed, marinas are awarded with a Clean Marina flag that can be flown over their facility advertising their accomplishments and status. Clean water is essential to Florida's multi-billion dollar marine industry, which is made up of over 2000 marinas, 400 boatyards, and 120,000 boaters. Since the program started in 1997, 50 of the 2400 Florida marinas and boatyards have received "Clean Marina" designation. Of those 50, eight are located in Central Florida.
