Economic Development for the City of Titusville and North Brevard

The Space Coast Economic Development Commission (SEDC) is a not-for-profit corporation supported by both public and private funds. With the exception of our office staff, ours is a volunteer organization. Our members come from a wide variety of service and manufacturing industries. Together, with the professional staff, the SEDC provides a complete development program. We strive to attract new industry to the North Brevard/Titusville area, and to assist firms that are already doing business here.

History:
In 1969, a group of concerned citizens, who were participating in the Community Action Program, saw the need to establish a new and diversified economic base for North Brevard. A committee was formed, and they carried on that "ad hoc" Economic Development program until October, 1970, when a professional staff was employed.

Mission:
To assemble, focus, and apply all necessary resources to assure managed and diversified economic growth of Titusville and the North Brevard community.

Purpose:
"The Commission's purpose shall be to promote industrial development and all general development; to enhance North Brevard as a better community in which to live and work." (Article II, Sections 1 and 2, Commission By-Laws)

The Commission's purpose may also be to operate as a Certified Development Company (The SEDC is a 501C4 not-for-profit organization) pursuant to Title V of the Small Business Investment Act.

Meetings:
The Executive Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month; the SEDC's Board of Directors meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The Annual General Membership meeting is in September. The Annual elections are in July. Elected officials take office October 1, of each year.

Unless otherwise stated, the Board of Directors meetings are open to the general membership and to the public. However, only directors may cast votes.

Officers are elected for one-year terms. Directors are elected for two-year terms.

The SEDC also hosts quarterly luncheons to which the general public is invited.

Information:
The SEDC provides local and regional demographics, site data, and all business community data on the North Brevard/Titusville area, as needed by local and prospective businesses.
